What is Artathon for Aid?

Artathon for Aid's vision is to empower and enable positive change in human condition by raising funds for under represented causes and campaigns.

Sandy Kurt and Fadhila Al Dhahouri, co-founders of the Global Centre of Islamic Art, begin Artathon for Aid with a message of solidarity, community, and creative action. Their welcoming remarks will reflect on the power of Islamic art to inspire hope and collective healing in times of crisis.

Why do artists return to the press again and again? We explore the meditative process of printmaking — the repetition, the textures, and the joy of unexpected outcomes.

How do you keep going when life gets heavy? This honest conversation is about creative survival — staying connected to art through life challenges.

What does it mean to create while mothering? We speak with artists who navigate both — how care, exhaustion, and identity shape (and sometimes stretch) their creative lives.

Too Sudanese for here, too foreign for there? We listen to the lived experience of growing up Sudanese abroad — how art helps hold the complexity of it all.

Many interdisciplinary artists stumble into Arabic calligraphy — but few leave.
In this conversation, we explore what happens when the script demands full attention.

Art isn't just expression — it unites. In this conversation, we explore how art becomes a tool for solidarity, especially in times of upheaval. From murals to graffiti, we reflect on the role of street art during the Sudanese revolution — how walls became voices, and images carried messages when words were silenced.

A conversation about paper, precision, and emotion. We talk about how layering colour and cutting shapes becomes a language of its own — one that speaks in silence and shadow.

A love letter to buildings in brushstrokes. This conversation is about memory, perspective, and the artist’s way of seeing structure as poetry.

It’s not always direct — no flags or maps. But culture finds its way in: through color, rhythm, repetition, memory. In this conversation, we talk about how a Sudanese background subtly shapes her creative choices — the stories she carries, the forms she returns to, and how distance can make influence feel even closer.

Creativity thrives on freedom — but what happens when there’s too much of it?
In this conversation, we talk about the overwhelm that comes with endless options: too many materials, directions, ideas, paths. How do artists stay focused, finish work, or even begin when the possibilities feel infinite — and heavy?

What happens when you share Islamic art in spaces where it might be misunderstood?
In this conversation, we reflect on what it means to teach and create Islamic art while living in the West — how communities respond with curiosity, connection, or caution.

What does it take to turn creativity into a career? In this conversation, we explore how artists make that transition — from building a portfolio and finding your audience to setting prices and creating income streams. It’s part mindset, part logistics, and a whole lot of experimentation.

Where’s the line between influence and imitation? In this conversation, we unpack the often-blurry space between learning from others and finding your own voice. From references and research to personal style and credit, we talk about what it really means to be inspired — without copying.

An artist shares how tactile pattern-making opens up new dimensions. We explore the process behind clay, stamps, and the small details that make an artwork feel alive.
Coming soon..

What can folding reveal about design, pattern, and precision? We talk with an artist whose work explores the technical and visual possibilities of paper — how simple creases can create complex, dimensional structures grounded in geometry and control.

Every artist creates within a cultural context — whether inherited, chosen, or questioned.
In this conversation, we explore how culture shapes what we make, how we see, and how we express. From motifs and materials to unspoken values and visual language, we ask: how much of our art is ours, and how much is what made us?

Behind every artwork is a palette, and behind every palette is a story. In this conversation, we reflect on how artists choose, collect, and connect with colour — one swatch at a time.

Meet our Charity Partner - Islamic Relief UK
Islamic Relief is a faith-based relief and development agency working to save and transform the lives of some of the world’s most vulnerable people.
Established in 1984, we now work in over 45 countries assisting individuals, families and communities through emergency response and development projects that typically help over 10 million people each year.
Islamic Relief has worked in Sudan for 40 years and remains by the sides of families caught up in the crisis.
Trailblazing on Making the Transformation of Islamic Art Accessible Globally
The Global Centre of Islamic Art (GCIA) is pioneering on creating solutions to have the transformation of Islamic Art accessible to everyone around the world.

The event is going to be ONLINE on Zoom and will run for 24 hours so that everyone can join us at any time on the 5th of July from 8am BST.
Thank you so much for sharing your interest and wanting to contribute. We suggest you email us at salam@gcislamicart.com to discuss this.
If you have purchased the ticket, you will receive a Zoom link one week before the start of the event. You can use that link to access it anytime during the 24 hours and even multiple times.
We are donating all proceeds from the ticket and also the donations made on the day of the event to Islamic Relief UK.
Absolutely yes. One of our goals is for you to relax and share this beautiful experience with others. You can all join us from different computers or one computer, it’s up to you. We also trust that you will be fair in your donation. At the end of the day, this event was created to make a difference to the people in Sudan. Thank you.
Although all the artists will be asked to share their tips and tricks and favourite techniques, this is not a workshop-type of event. And the best part of it all is that you will finally have the opportunity to ask the questions you have always wanted to ask your favourite artists (in person) and get to know them better. Isn’t it amazing?
Yes, only when you purchase the recordings.
It is a lifetime access! So, you can relive all the sessions as many times as you want!
